How to Use GMB to Boost Content and Improve SEO Results

With Google’s New Algorithm update rolling out over the Summer, Google My Business (GMB) is now essential for any business to promote new products and services while placing their company ‘on the map’.

TechWyse has helped our clients get more traffic to their websites and brick-and-mortar stores by optimizing their GMB with its new features and SEO tools. On top of that, setting up your Google My Business account is free to install, easy to use, and data-driven to help you make informed decisions about your business profile.

What should I put on my GMB account?

With potential customers requiring as much information as possible before making a purchasing decision, business owners need to place as many facts and updates to keep people from looking elsewhere.

This includes store hours, company updates, lists of products and services, links to social media, and, of course, your address! GMB has been upgraded to allow even more personalized information such as COVID-19 policies, special store hours for seniors or students, and even restaurant hours for delivery and takeout.

Having all of this up-to-date will look favorably on your business profile and is more likely to attract customers.

How does Google My Business affect my SEO?

Simply put, it’s integral for SEO. Your locations, services, etc. all need to be up-to-date and properly formulated to help improve your business ranking or be noticed by Google’s web crawler. If you are offering the same products or services as other companies in a particular area, you’ll want your GMB as complete as possible to rank ahead of the competition.

Adding photos also help with your ranking and company profile. The more visuals you add to your GMB the better it will look from both a consumer standpoint and Google’s perspective.

GMB – The New Content Marketing Platform!

Did you know that Google now allows posts to help with your SEO? Sure, you can link all of your social media profiles to allow your customers to access more content. However, Google now allows your business to promote and publish any message that you want to send out.

Many examples include new product offerings, the celebration of holidays, special promotions and events, and much more! Google will scan your posts on your GMB profile and, if done properly, will help improve your organic search results when customers are looking for a specific product offering or service.

Be sure to add photos to help the customer visualize what they are going to be purchasing or what they are going to see when they are heading to the brick-and-mortar location.

Reviews, reviews, reviews!

As an online customer myself, I’ve always looked at business reviews to help shape my decisions on which companies I’m going to look more into. Having an up-to-date reviews page helps the user make informed decisions, and it’s also something Google looks favorably upon.

Reviews also help with your reputation. A positive aspect of GMB reviews is that it allows you to respond to any review. If a customer had a bad experience and gave you a 2-star rating, GMB allows you to respond, clarify and potentially ratify the situation to bring your overall rating in a positive direction.

You can also incentivize the customer by asking them to leave a review. Allowing the customer to have a percentage off their next purchase is just one of many marketing tools companies have used to keep their customers coming back.

Paid Promotions on Google Maps

Google now allows for your business to be at the top of specific keywords when customers search on Maps. This is just one of many ways to gain more reach and exposure on Google via your Google My Business account!
